Luis Angel Martinez

Luis is a former Spanish teacher at West Shores High School. He has been in the district for 10 years. He has been involved in many different roles in the district such as School Site Council, Athletic Director and soccer coach.

He received a Bachelor’s Degree from California State San Bernardino. He later attended Chapman University and finished his single subject teaching credential in Spanish. Currently he is attending Azusa Pacific University to pursue a Masters in Educational Leadership.

Esmeralda Chavez
English Learner TOSA


Throughout her five years at Desert Mirage High School, Esmeralda Chavez taught   English 3, English 2, English 1 Intervention, ELA CAHSEE Support, and Computer Concepts.   Prior to this, Esmeralda also taught 7th Grade ELA Intervention, 7th Grade ELA CP, English I, English 2, and English 3 at West Shores High School. 

Esmeralda’s passion for educational change has led her to participate in numerous school site roles at Desert Mirage High School.  These include being the Saturday School Coordinator for the last 2 years, serving as the National Honor Society Faculty Council Member, graduation committee member, an ASES afterschool teacher, and was instrumental in developing the Common Core (C4) 11th Grade units of study.

Renee Miletic, PhD
English Learner TOSA

In her three years at DMHS, Renee Miletic, PhD, taught English 2 and 3 CP, ELD 2 and Transitional English, Apex, Psychology, and she was an active faculty member of the School Site Council, ELAC committee, and Green Technology Academy.

During her 23 years in public education, Dr. Miletic has also taught Exploratory Spanish,      Spanish 1-3, and Spanish for Native Speakers 1 & 2, English 1-3, ESL1-3, ELD 1-3, Yearbook, Read 180, and 7th Grade ELA. 

She earned her BS in Secondary English and Spanish, her MAT in TESOL/Bilingual Education, and her PhD in Curriculum & Instruction. To achieve her personal goals for professional development, Dr. Miletic has earned National Board Certification in English as a New Language for Early Adolescents through Young Adults and Leading Edge Certification for Online/Blended Teachers.

Madonna Gerrell
English Learner TOSA

Madonna Gerrell is currently a Teacher on Special Assignment in English Language Learner Services for Coachella Valley Unified School District.  Her experience includes (27) years of service and education in Coachella Valley Unified School District and (3) years of teaching in Minnesota. 

She has a Bachelor's of Science degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Learning Disabilities from Winona State University as well as a Master's Degree in curriculum and instruction from Chapman University, Palm Desert. 

She is excited about working and collaborating parents, teachers, students, and community members.

School served: Valle Del Sol Elementary School, Palm View Elementary School Bobby Duke Middle School, and Coachella Valley High School.

Araida Flores
English Learner TOSA

Araida Flores has 10 years experience in the Education field. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Sociology from the University of California Riverside. She then obtained her teaching credential from Chapman University and her Masters degree in Educational Administration from Cal State University San Bernardino.

She has taught ELD, Spanish and AVID for the last nine years. She has been an AVID Co-Coordinator, Department Chair, School Site Council member and FIAT liaison. In addition, she also has been an advisor to different clubs at the high school level. Currently, Araida serves as one of the new English Language Learner Services Teachers on Special Assignment (EL TOSA).
